What size bulk bin is best for potato storage?
Most potato growers run vented bulk bins in the 600 to 1200 litre range, roughly half a tonne to a tonne of crop per bin. The right size depends on your forklift, store height and how you move the crop. Tell us your operation and we will size it.
Are vented plastic bins better than timber field bins for potatoes?
For most operations, yes. Plastic does not rot, splinter or soak up moisture, the venting is consistent bin to bin, and it hoses down food-grade clean. Timber is cheaper to buy but is repaired or replaced far more often.
Can the bins go into cold storage?
Yes. The HDPE holds shape through cold-store temperatures and stacks square so you use the full height. Folding models also collapse out of season to reclaim space.
